QUICK FIRE ROUND with AdeY

- what was the first photography book you bought?

Besides some amusing 80’s used  “Guide to photography books” back when I started, the first photobook I bought was Gregory Crewdson's “Beneath the Roses”. I remember at the time being fascinated at the sheer amount of production that had gone into each photographic frame.

- what is your favourite colour?

Coral Pink… I’m still waiting for Birkenstock to make Coral Pink sandals in my size! 😀

- who are your photographic influences?
For me this is difficult to answer as my background is in performance art and contemporary dance. When I started my photographic journey I was heavily influenced by works I had seen from Pina Bausch & DV8 Physical Theatre amongst others and performance works by Marina Abramović and John Cage.

- what is your favourite museum (or public gallery)?

Louisiana in Denmark! Amazing curation, beautiful location by the coast, and sublime lunch buffet. What else do you need?

- if you could buy any photograph which would it be?

Hmmm...I always thought it would be fun to own a giant vibrant David LaChapelle piece in my living room! I liked the promotional shots he did for his full length directorial debut RIZE which you should watch if you haven’t seen it. I also love Nan Goldin’s portraits from the 80’s and early 90’s like “Misty" and "Jimmy Paulette in a Taxi”.

- your favourite holiday destination?

I love to visit Japan. I’m not sure I could ever live there permanently, but no matter how many times I visit I’m always fascinated by how differently things operate compared to almost anywhere else in the world. Japan is a bizarre, brilliant and mind boggling place!

- if there is one person you could photograph who would it be?

David Bowie. I was obsessed with his music, his performance art and his multi-dimensional personality. I would love to see one of my images featuring David Bowie!

- what is your guilty pleasure?

Red wine and copious amount of cheese.

- what is your favourite city?

Copenhagen where I currently live. It’s a small city that kind of has a big city vibe. Copenhagen is a very social place with beautiful locations and most within walking distance. You can be spontaneous in meet ups yet still have enough space to hide for those quiet reflective times. I love many other cities like NYC, Tokyo etc but Copenhagen is definitely my favourite.

- which charities do you support?

I don’t commit myself to supporting any specific charities but when I’m made aware of certain causes I whole heartedly try to support with what I can. Back when I was living in London I used to fundraise for a number of charities including the Red Cross and the RSPCA.
