11 February - Michael Batten, Actor & Writer
BOYS! BOYS! BOYS! MEETS ... Michael Batten
Actor-Writer Michael Batten continues to make waves on the British theatre scene with his latest hit, Remembrance Monday. The production which premiered at Seven Dials Playhouse in London earned four OFFIE Award nominations - including Best New Play. It recently premiered in Mexico City in a brand-new Spanish translation, where it received rave reviews for its powerful storytelling and emotional resonance.
Batten first drew widespread acclaim with his self-penned, one-man play Self Tape, which premiered to sold-out audiences at the King’s Head Theatre (2023). Following a critically praised revival that summer, the production earned an OFFIE nomination and was celebrated for Batten’s “unflinching” and “bold” writing.
Originally from a council estate outside Watford, Batten’s upbringing continues to inform the raw honesty and emotional depth of his work. His other plays include Tickety-Boo and Finding Mum.
As an actor, his stage credits include Marty in The Second Woman with Ruth Wilson (Young Vic), Nijinsky in For They Have No Sun (Split Moon Theatre), Mr. Miller in Happy Ending (Garden Theatre), Puck in A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Teatro dell’Opera di Roma), Jamie in The Last 5 Years (Tabard Theatre), and the title role in Dorian Gray (Lion and Unicorn Theatre).
